LESSONS FROM OBADIAH

Hello everyone, I'm sorry for the break but I have actually not been away. I resulted to posting Bible mysteries & lessons revealed to me on my Facebook wall instead as it was easier; due to the fact that I have been busy with dissertation *wheeew*! I have summarised some of them here. Today was really remarkable because I did something I have never done before. I just recently finished reading the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John for the umpteenth time; (for which my best friend told me they were referred to as the 'SYNOPTIC GOSPELS'. I later confirmed this to be true here).

I then decided to read a new book of the Bible and did not know how to go about the selection so I closed my eyes and prayerfully pointed to a book in the Alphabetical List of Books in my Amplified Bible (by the way, to really study God's word, I always advice using Bibles translated to simple English such as the Amplified Bible because therein will the understanding and in-depth knowledge come). Since we are not Victorians, or still in the Victorian era, the King James Version (KJV) of the Bible 'may' not be all that ideal for in-depth study. Personally, I have two Bibles. One KJV for use in Church and one Amplified for personal study.

When I opened my eyes, my index finger was lying exactly beneath the book of Obadiah. Without hesitation I set out to read, and as I did, a few things were been ministered through this great book. I share them below.

1. Never celebrate or rejoice over the downfall of another (v.12)
"You should not gloat over your brother in the day of his misfortune, nor rejoice over the people of Judah in the day of their destruction, nor boast so much in the day of their trouble."

2. God will SURELY judge the wicked (v.15)
"The day of the LORD is near for all nations. As you have done, it will be done to you; your deeds will return upon your own head."

3. Not only God's children, but anyone and everyone can be saved from His wrath (v.17)
"But on Mount Zion [in Jerusalem] there shall be deliverance [for those who escape], and it shall be holy; and the house of Jacob shall possess its [own former] possessions."
4. God will destroy and debase the 'proud' (v.3-4:)
"The pride of your heart has deceived you, you who live in the clefts of the rocks and make your home on the heights, you who say to yourself, 'Who can bring me down to the ground?’ Though you soar like the eagle and make your nest among the stars, from there I will bring you down,” declares the Lord."
5.  Never be an enemy to the progress of another or stand in the way of their upliftment  (v.10-11)
"Because of the violence against your brother Jacob, you will be covered with shame;you will be destroyed forever. On the day you stood aloof while strangers carried off his wealth and cast lots for Jerusalem, you were like one of them." (read about it here Numbers 20:18-20)

I hope you are blessed by this piece. Remember to SHARE!

God Bless you!
